Americans Gather To Peacefully Protest The Death Of George Floyd While Trump Stokes Racism!
by Sophie Sizzle
Americans have been outraged and shocked over the way George Floyd died this week in Minneapolis.
Floyd died in police custody when Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis Police Officer, knelt on Floyd’s neck for nearly eight minutes. Floyd was reportedly unresponsive for three minutes before Chauvin removed his knee. Floyd was pronounced dead at the hospital. Floyd was only 46-years-old.
Fortunately, a bystander and surveillance video caught this act of police brutality.
The police tried to lie and claim that Floyd resisted arrest. The video shot and surveillance video proved that the police were liars. All four police officers were fired.
Officer Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd’s neck until he died, was finally arrested on Friday. Chauvin was charged with manslaughter and third-degree murder. Many Americans believe that Chauvin was under-charged. Moreover, many also want the other three officers to be charged for failing to protect Floyd as he cried in pain.
Protesters took to the streets in rightful anger in Minneapolis on Wednesday night. They were met by police using rubber bullets and tear gas. Many on social media were quick to point out that when armed white protesters showed up to demand that America reopen during the Coronavirus lockdown that police took no action.
Meanwhile, state police decided to arrest an innocent group of journalists from CNN who where covering the story. This was also captured on video. The video proves that the CNN crew identified themselves a members of the media. This fact didn’t stop the police from arresting them. The journalists were released only after CNN contacted the governor.
Donald Trump did all he could to inflame the injustice when he posted on Twitter: "Looting leads to shooting, and that’s why a man was shot and killed in Minneapolis on Wednesday night.”
In response, Twitter flagged and hid Trump’s Tweet stating that Trump violated Twitter's rules about glorifying violence. This is the first time that a Tweet by Trump has been flagged. Trump was reportedly furious.
FYI: Trump stole the line “looting leads to shooting” from another racist, George Wallace.
In contrast, former President Obama issued a compassionate statement on Floyd’s murder on Twitter. President Obama posted: “This shouldn’t be ‘normal’ in America. It can’t be ‘normal.’ If we want our children to grow up in a nation that lives up to its highest ideals, we can and must be better.”
Former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden also weighed in on Trump’s attempt to inflame Floyd’s murder. Biden shared: "I will not lift the President's tweet. I will not give him that amplification. But he is calling for violence against American citizens during a moment of pain for so many. I'm furious, and you should be too."
Demonstrators across America took to the streets on Friday night in peaceful demonstrations in an effort to stop police brutality. Videos posted on social media show demonstrators marching in Atlanta, Georgia chanting, “I can’t breath” and “hands up, don’t shoot.”
Protest rallies are being held on Friday and throughout the weekend in big cities across America including Houston, New York City and Washington DC.
