Are Trump Lawyers Using Misogyny and Racism To Defend The Indefensible?

Donald Trump’s lawyers appear to be using instilled misogyny and racism to distract from and defend the indefensible. Trump stands accused of inciting a mob to attack our nation’s Capitol.
Trump’s actions are so awful that they cannot be defended. Therefore, Trump’s lawyers appear to be resorting to a tried and true tactic: BLAME THE VICTIM.
This works — especially if the victim is female, a person of color or both!
Misogyny
The definition of misogyny is a hatred of, aversion to, or prejudice against women.
On Monday, Trump’s lawyers Bruce Castor and David Schoen offered their bizarre defense that included a film featuring victims of the riot calling for Trump’s impeachment.
Trump has a history of hiring lawyers who have defended men who prey on women, including Ken Starr and Alan Dershowitz. In fact, Trump stands accused of sexually abusing at least 23 women and girls.
Castor is famous for what he failed to do: Castor failed to prosecute Bill Cosby in 2005, when Andrea Constand accused Cosby of sexual assault.
Schoen consulted with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein days before his death.
Victim Blaming
On Tuesday, Schoen stated, “It is a function for the insatiable lust for impeachment in the House for the last four years.” He then proceeded to play the defense’s film.
The film featured some of Trump’s favorite targets including New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, California Rep. Maxine Waters and Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib.
ALL of these women were victims in Trump’s alleged crime of inciting a mob to attack our Capitol. Victim blaming is not acceptable!
Women In Power
Prejudice is even stronger against women in power.
Films, like the one shown by Trump’s lawyers, play on these prejudices.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson has made a sport of going after powerful women — especially women of color — and it needs to stop!
In 2019 Carlson stated Ocasio-Cortez, “is a moron and nasty and more self-righteous than any televangelist who ever preached a sermon on cable access. She’s not impressive, she’s awful.”
After the Capitol attack, Carlson mocked Ocasio-Cortez for thinking she might die in the Capitol. Moreover, he called her a “vacuous little totalitarian moron.”
One in Three Women
According to UNWomen, one in three women worldwide experience “physical or sexual violence.”
As a society we need to speak out against systemic prejudice. Not enough is done to prevent violence against women.
To every man and woman reading this, please, speak up!
“The idea that a woman can be as powerful as a man is something that our society can’t deal with. But I am as powerful as a man, and it drives them crazy.” – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
