House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Jamie Raskin announced plans to introduce new legislation on Friday. They plan to create a “Commission on Presidential Capacity To Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office Act.”
Raskin is a respected constitutional law expert. The purpose of the commission is to determine whether a Donald Trump is fit for office after his increasingly bizarre behavior since contracting the coronavirus.
According to the press release from Pelosi’s office, the commission’s purpose is “to help ensure effective and uninterrupted leadership in the highest office in the Executive Branch of Government.”
On Thursday, Pelosi stated that Americans needs to know when Trump’s last negative coronavirus test occurred. Many are speculating that Trump tested positive prior to his debate with Joe Biden.
Fun Fact: Trump showed up late to the debate and managed to avoid being tested for coronavirus, as agreed to by both the Trump and Biden campaigns.
Pelosi stated, “I think that the public needs to know the health condition of the president. Before he got the virus and admitted to it, when was his last negative test?”
Pelosi explained that knowing when Trump last tested positive for the virus will help everyone, “make a judgement about the actions that were taken after that.”
In 2017, Raskin filed similar legislation. His legislation created a congressional body — which is actually covered in the 25th amendment — made up of physicians, mental health experts and top leaders to render a professional judgement on the president’s health. The commission would work with the vice president on a transition of power. This may explain whyMike Pence canceled his events and is hurrying back to Washington.
