It’s being widely reported that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy donated over $685,000 to the Republican National Convention—BEFORE taking office. That’s nearly $700,000 dollars.
Last month CNN reported, “The new filings Friday at the Federal Election Commission from the Charlotte Host Committee show four donations from DeJoy between late December 2018 and late March 2020, totaling $685,230.”
DeJoy and Donald Trump appear to have attempted to use the United States Postal Service for the purpose of stealing the election for Republicans. They harmed folks in the process.
The post office is responsible for delivering much needed medicines, supplies, benefit checks, financial statements, and the important correspondence that every American household counts on.
You will recall that just before the election that DeJoy lost again as another federal court ordered the USPS to walk back its controversial reforms.
Jones vs USPS
Judge Victor Marrero ruled against DeJoy stating, “Conflicting, vague, and ambivalent managerial signals could also sow substantial doubt about whether the USPS is up to the task, whether it possesses the institutional will power and commitment to its historical mission, and so to handle the exceptional burden associated with a profoundly critical task in our democratic system, that of collecting and delivering election mail a few weeks from now.”
The judge ordered that the USPS treat all election mail as first-class mail to ensure an expedited delivery. The judge stated that DeJoy was to pre-approve all overtime from Oct. 26 though Nov. 6. Moreover, the court ordered that USPS take ALL steps necessary to restore on-time delivery.
The judge didn’t trust DeJoy so the court plans to take steps to make sure DeJoy follows its orders.
This Follows Another Court Loss
This loss followed another court loss. Recall that Judge Stanley Bastian ruled that DeJoy must undo the changes he made to America’s postal service.
Bastian’s decision mandated that ALL election mail, regardless of postage, must be treated as first-class mail. Moreover, his mandate states that USPS must reconnect America’s mail sorting machines within three days of his order or within three days of a future request.
Bastian Excoriated DeJoy And Trump
Bastian ripped DeJoy and Trump apart, “Although not necessarily apparent on the surface, at the heart of DeJoy's and the Postal Service's actions is voter disenfranchisement.”
He continued, “This is evident in President Trump's highly partisan words and tweets, the actual impact of the changes on primary elections that resulted in uncounted ballots, and recent attempts and lawsuits by the Republican National Committee and President Trump's campaign to stop the States' efforts to bypass the Postal Service by utilizing ballot drop boxes, as well as the timing of the changes"
Rebuked
Bastian continued his blistering rebuke, “It is easy to conclude that the recent Postal Services' changes is an intentional effort on the part of the current Administration to disrupt and challenge the legitimacy of upcoming local, state, and federal elections, especially given that 72% of the high speed mail sorting machines that were decommissioned were located in counties where Hillary Clinton received the most votes in 2016.”
The judge ordered that DeJoy and the USPS undo ALL the changes made in the last few months — Reminder: mail in your ballots by October 20th, drop them off at designated ballot boxes if your state offers them or vote in person on November 3rd.
Bastian decision states, “If any post office, distribution center, or other postal facility will be unable to process election mail for the November 2020 election in accordance with First Class delivery standards because of the Postal Service's recent removal and decommissioning of equipment, such equipment will be replaced, reassembled, or reconnected to ensure that the Postal Service can comply with its prior policy delivering election mail in accordance with First Class delivery standards.”
DeJoy Must Be Investigated
@TedLieu Tweeted, “Last month @RepJeffries and I made a criminal referral to the @FBI to investigate DeJoy and the @USPS Board. It is a crime to slow mail service to affect federal elections.“
Lieu continued, “Based on the language in this federal court ruling, we are right. We fully expect the FBI to do its duty.”
@SenJackyRosen Tweeted, “I’m leading my Nevada colleagues in demanding answers from Postmaster General DeJoy about a USPS mailer sent out to Nevadans with incorrect and potentially misleading voting date information, along with troubling reports of USPS not updating critical change of address data.”
Politically Motivated Attack
In an earlier court hearing, Judge Bastian added that he believed that Trump and DeJoy are “involved in a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the Postal Service.”
We Won Because We Overcame The Cheating Effort
We must investigate DeJoy and Trump because this is reported election interference. It was politically motivated. It was an attack on our Democracy.
