House Democrats Offer "Heroes Act" Relief Package Providing up to $6000 per Household!
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the largest relief package in U.S. History called the Heroes Act. McConnell and Republican-controlled Senate don't think Americans need additional funds.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi together with House Democrats announced the largest relief package in U.S. history called the Heroes Act.
“We must think big for the people now, because if we don’t it will cost more in lives and livelihood later. Not acting is the most expensive course,” declared Pelosi during today’s press conference.
The Heroes Act package allots money for:
1) Coronavirus testing and contact tracing
2) Provides up to $6000 per household to Americans
3) Gives additional funding for state and local government
4) Provides hazard pay for essential workers
5) Provide funds for the U.S. Postal Service
6) Require passengers on airplanes to wear masks
7) Allows all voters to vote by mail in November’s election
8) Provides $10 billion in assistance to small businesses who haven’t received money yet from the Paycheck Protection Program
9) Honoring heroes of this pandemic
These details are according to the fact sheet released by the House Appropriations Committee.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the Republican-controlled Senate threaten not to pass the Heroes Act relief package because they don’t think Americans need any additional money beyond the one-time $1200 payment.
Pelosi disagreed saying to Jake Tapper,"For the families who are suffering though, hunger doesn't take a pause, rent doesn't take a pause, bills don't take a pause, the hardship of losing a job or tragically losing a loved one doesn't take a pause.”
In contrast, South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham declared that the Heroes Act is "dead on arrival.” Graham claims he is “sympathetic” to the idea that Americans may need additional help to recover but refuses to vote for it.
McConnell stated his priority is protecting big businesses from lawsuits in his push back against the Heroes Act. McConnell stated from the Senate floor on Tuesday that the Heroes Act is “a big laundry list of pet priorities.”
Nevertheless, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi together with House and Senate Democrats hope the Heroes Act will pressure Trump, McConnell and Senate Republicans to provide additional relief for Americans.
