A brave nurse, who worked at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility, filed a whistleblower complaint with the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General last month.
Dawn Wooton, LPN stated in her complaint that, “Everybody’s uterus cannot be that bad.” Moreover, Wooten said, “Hispanics are treated the worst in the facility.”
This particular facility is operated by LaSalle Corrections, a private “for profit” prison company.
Nurse Wooten is being represented by the Government Accountability Project. Wooten’s complaint is backed up by other nurses and also signed by multiple immigrant advocacy groups including Project South, Georgia Detention Watch, Georgia Latino Allicane For Human Rights And South Georgia Immigrant Support Network.
Nurse Wooten Wrongfully Demoted
After bravely coming forward with her whistle blower complaint, Nurse Wooten was demoted by LaSalle Corrections.
Alarming Frequency
LeeAnn Culbreath who is a co-founder and co-chair of South Georgia Immigrant Support Network shared conversations that she had with some detained women. She stated, “With alarming frequency we hear about women who've received gynecological procedures. Sometimes they were not given an opportunity to give consent for that.”
According to the Catholic News Agency: “One detainee likened the conditions to ‘an experimental concentration camp.’ Women were reported to be ‘confused’ as to the procedure they had received.”
The Uterus Collector
Nurse Wooten called one doctor “the uterus collector.” She continued, “Everybody he sees has a hysterectomy—just about everybody.” Many are likening the doctor to Josef Mengele who is remembered for performing lethal experiments on victims held in the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.
Why won’t ICE release the name of the doctor who performed all these hysterectomies?
Guards Are Raping Women
Nurse Wooten’s information follows on the heels of numerous rape complaints at multiple ICE facilities. In a filing obtained by The Texas Tribune this year, it was reported that guards repeatedly assaulted women being held in a detention center. The guards reportedly knew where the security cameras were place and raped women in areas that would not be caught on camera.
No One Will Believe You
After raping the women, the guards said what every rapist says: They told their victims that no one would believe them. According to federal data obtained by the advocacy group Freedom for Immigrants, ICE reported 1224 formal accusations of sexual assault. Only a mere 43 cases were ever investigated.
How many sexual assaults were never reported?
Pregnant By Her Rapist
In May of 2020, a women known as Jane Doe charged that she became pregnant as the result of rape. She is currently suing CoreCivic, the private corrections company that operated the facility where her reported rape happened. After she was raped, she was immediately deported to Mexico.
CoreCivic’s website claims that, “CoreCivic has been an innovative, dependable partner for government. CoreCivic Safety is the nation’s leading provider of high-quality corrections and detention management.”
The truth is that CoreCivic a “for-profit” prison company who makes money for stockholders. Mark A. Emkes has reportedly been the Chairman of the Board of CoreCivic since 2014.
Brutally Raped
Jane Doe reports in her lawsuit that while being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, she and two other women were taken from their dorms into a small room. The victim states that three immigration officials came into the room, hit the women in the face and brutally raped each of them.
All three were put on a bus and deported back to Mexico within hours of the assault, according to the lawsuit.
Living Proof Of The Rape
Jane Doe has proof of her rape allegations. After she was raped, she was deported to Mexico. There, she gave birth to a little girl. CoreCivic is on now the hook for millions in damages.
Is this why there is a sudden surge in hysterectomies?
Hysterectomies Being Done To Cover-up Rapes & Prevent Lawsuits?
These detention centers are run by “for profit” prison camp companies. Damages from lawsuits like this can run into the millions of dollars. Victims who become pregnant have proof — because the child is “living proof” that a rape occurred. All that is needed is a DNA test.
Appropriate Skepticism They Deserve…
When asked about the hysterectomies ICE spokesperson Lindsay Williams gave a chilling statement, “In general, anonymous, unproven allegations, made without any fact-checkable specifics, should be treated with the appropriate skepticism they deserve.”
More Investigations Into ICE
Rep. Bennie Thompson, who chaired the House Committee on Homeland Security, stated that the House Committee would examine the allegations in Nurse Wooten’s complaint as part of their ongoing investigation concerning deplorable conditions at ICE detention facilities run by “for profit” private prison companies.
Incredibly Disturbing
Thompson said in his statement, “The allegations put forth in this whistleblower complaint point to an alarming pattern of unsafe conditions and a lack of oversight at privately-run ICE facilities. The complaint alleging hysterectomies have been performed on women held in detention without consent is incredibly disturbing.”
