Mayor Gets Sued By Texas GOP After He Cancels Their Convention Due To Coronavirus Safety Issues!

With Covid-19 cases reaching an all-time high in the United States right now, the last thing we need is a giant convention, filled with over 6,000 people, a handful of which would almost assuredly be infected, statistically speaking, whether they were aware or not. That’s pretty much common sense at this point.
Well, instead of keeping its own people safe, as well as all of the people who will come into contact with them afterwards, the Republican Party of Texas has decided to file a lawsuit against Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner for cancelling next week’s GOP convention due to concerns of the potential -- and, let’s face it, inevitable -- Covid-19 spreading that would occur. Apparently common sense isn’t common enough within the Republican Party of Texas, though I’m sure, for many people, this comes as no surprise.
The lawsuit demands that the convention still take place at Houston’s convention center as was initially intended, as well as seeking damages should the convention fail to take place. The Republican Party of Texas also attempted to request an order, which would have overruled Turner’s cancellation of the event that was supposed to be held, but they were fortunately and promptly denied. The party plans to make an appeal to the Texas Supreme Court, which will likely have the same effect.
Despite the indifference some may have towards 6,000 incredibly stupid people meeting up and pressing tightly together into a cesspool of deadly viral infection, knowing that by doing so will cause a self-imposed risk of death or permanent heart and/or kidney damage, but unfortunately these people do not live in a vacuum. We have to share this land with them and breathe the same air, and, as a result, potentially share the consequences of their poor decision-making.
Until there is a vaccine, the only way we are going to prevent the spreading of Covid-19 is by making smart decisions: like not meeting in large groups, and not throwing a tantrum and threatening to sue political leaders, who are actually trying to save lives, just because we didn’t get our way.
