Mitch McConnell Is Out Of Touch With Regular Folks!
With Senate Republicans, like Mitch McConnell, facing a more difficult election in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Democrats have an opportunity to unseat Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
With Senate Republicans facing a more difficult election in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Democrats have an opportunity to unseat Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Having spent decades in Washington, McConnell appears to be woefully out of touch with regular folks—especially in his home state of Kentucky.
This week, McConnell refused to put the Heroes Act to a vote in the Senate. The Heroes Act would have provided up to $6000 per household of much needed financial relief for Kentucky workers—and all American workers—who have lost their jobs due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
McConnell was then caught lying in an interview with Lara Trump where he claimed that President Obama had not left behind a plan to deal with a pandemic.
McConnell was forced to correct his lie. "I was wrong. They did leave behind a plan, so I clearly made a mistake in that regard," McConnell stated during an interview with Bret Baier.
McConnell also angered officials in Kentucky for suggesting that states—including Kentucky— file for bankruptcy rather than request more federal funds to combat the Coronavirus pandemic.
By rejecting the plea of governors and mayors for additional funding to make up for the impact of Coronavirus, McConnell made himself an easy target which again speaks to how out of touch he is with regular Americans.
The outrage over McConnell is coming from both Democrat and Republican leaders who are anxious to fund police, fire, hospitals, healthcare workers and other essential services in their home states.
McConnell criticism in Kentucky was already growing after his latest $484 billion Coronavirus pandemic relief package failed to include money for local and state governments. A March study conducted by WalletHub found that Kentucky is the 5th most dependent state on federal money.
Fun Fact: On March 12th, McConnell could have insisted that the Senate work through over the weekend to address CARES One—an emergency aid package for Americans who were desperate for funding as the Coronavirus pandemic increased unemployment rates across the U.S. Instead, McConnell recessed the Senate for a long weekend so he could attend a party for Federal Judge Justin Walker.
McConnell is a 78-year-old millionaire who has spent years in Washington.
In contrast, Democratic challenger is an American hero and veteran. Amy McGrath lives in Kentucky with her family. McGrath is a former Marine fighter pilot who flew 89 combat missions against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. McGrath is married to now-retired naval Lieutenant Commander Erik Henderson. Together, they have three children.
McGrath reflected how McConnell’s partisanship has blinded him to the needs of regular folks. "How about we stop thinking in partisan terms of blue and red and start seeing in red, white, and blue?" McGrath posted on Twitter.
"We need more patriots as leaders, not longtime partisans … especially now during this national crisis,” shared McGrath.
