Donald Trump tried to pretend he has the authority to cancel the November election—He doesn’t. Even if elections were postponed—Trump’s term ends—leaving Speaker Nancy Pelosi as our President.
Trump doesn’t have the authority to cancel elections. The fact that he tried to use coronavirus as an excuse shows his hypocrisy.
We have to cancel everything except our children going to school?
For months Donald Trump advocated for a loud, action-packed Republican National Convention to celebrate his nomination. After North Carolina leaders declined to promise this type of event, Trump pivoted to Florida where Gov. Ron DeSantis would give him the multi-night ruckus event that Trump demanded.
This week, Trump and the Republicans suddenly canceled the RNC suddenly citing fear of coronavirus and the need to protect the public. Donald Trump stated, “I have to protect the American people.”
This seems disingenuous in light of Trump accusing Democratic governors of purposely keeping their states closed. Trump also called coronavirus a hoax while refusing to wear a mask.
Despite health concerns, Trump still insisted on gathering thousands of his followers for rallies in multiple states. Moreover, Trump made fun of Democrats who planned a virtual event for their convention in August.
So what is really going on?
Many Republicans reportedly expressed concern for their health and refused to attend the convention. Trump was allegedly worried about the convention being poorly attended and how that would look on national television.
This is the real reason why Trump canceled the RNC convention—not a sudden epiphany over “health concerns.”
GOP Wants Your Child Back In School But Won’t Attend Their RNC Convention
So Republicans are so afraid of catching coronavirus that they won’t get together to attend their own convention, but they are insisting that your children return to school? Their hypocrisy is endless.
Trump stated, “We cannot indefinitely stop 50 million American children from going to school, harming their mental, physical and emotional development. Reopening our schools is also critical to ensuring that parents can go to work and provide for their families.”
So there it is. Trump and Republicans are willing to risk your family’s safety, but not their own.
According to John Hopkins, “Serious illness in children with COVID-19 is possible, and parents should stay alert if their child is diagnosed with, or shows signs of, the disease. In the study, 10% of infants with a positive COVID-19 test became critically ill.”
Republicans are insisting that you send your children back to school with no national testing and with no national contact tracing in place. They are willing to place your children in danger even as the U.S. surpasses 4 million known coronavirus cases.
They are happy to sacrifice your family to help Trump win the White House in November.
