This should have been resolved in May, but Republicans don’t care about regular folks. The U.S. House passed the largest relief package in U.S. history called the Heroes Act on May 16 of this year.
The Heroes Act package would have allotted money for your family:
Up to $6000 per household to Americans
Additional funding for state and local government
Hazard pay for essential workers
Funds for the U.S. Postal Service
$10 billion in assistance to small businesses who haven’t received money yet from the Paycheck Protection Program
Funds to honor heroes of this pandemic
Coronavirus testing and contact tracing
These details are according to the fact sheet released by the House Appropriations Committee.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senator Susan Collins, Senator Lindsey Graham and the rest of your Senators refused to consider voting on the Heroes Act relief package.
Moreover, Graham declared that the Heroes Act is "dead on arrival.” Graham claimed he is “sympathetic” to the idea that Americans may need additional help to recover but declined to vote for it.
McConnell stated his priority was to protect big businesses from lawsuits in his push back against the Heroes Act. McConnell called the Heroes Act is “a big laundry list of pet priorities.”
Americans being able to pay their bills, buy food and have access to coronavirus test kits are “pet priorities” to McConnell? McConnell proves again that he is an out of touch 78-year-old millionaire who spends most of his time in Washington.
The federal ban on evictions and the extra $600 weekly benefits expired on July 31. It’s shocking that America’s Senators have done nothing to help working folks. Instead, they have played party politics with your family’s ability to make ends meet.
If they didn’t like the Heroes Act, Senators could have worked to put together their own plan for a second round of assistance back in May.
Spoiler Alert: Your Senators did nothing!
Instead, they all took two week vacations because doing nothing for Americans is hard work. Now they are headed for a three day weekend and have still done nothing to help Americans.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is headed for a three day golf weekend during the worst pandemic of our lifetime.
Canadians continue to receive $2000 a month in coronavirus assistance and have access to test kits. They are not dying in the hundreds of thousands.
If you are tired of seeing your leaders play politics while you family is worried about being evicted or buying groceries, act today.
Call your Senator at the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 then simply tell the operator to transfer you to your Senator. Leave a voicemail and demand action.
